February 2nd: Evening Prayer with the Blessing and Lighting of Candles. Join in the unceasing prayer of the church together with the consecrated women and men who pray the Divine Office each day.
In the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart on Tuesday, February 2nd at 7:30
pm we will close the Year for Consecrated Life on World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life.
This celebration is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples.  Come join us in prayer!

Ideas of Parish Events to Celebrate
the Year of Consecrated Life

The committee for the Year of Consecrated Life proposes the following ideas/events:

  • Include the Bulletin insert about the Year of Consecrated Life published monthly on the website in your parish bulletin
  • Organize a Holy Hour for vocations
  • Include prayer intentions (available on this website)
  • Consider ways of celebrating the Religious Presence that was or is in your parish
  • Highlight the Retirement Fund collection in December
  • Invite Religious to speak about Consecrated Life, during Mass or at other events. You may contact the office of the Delegate for Religious if you do not know any consecrated person who could come and speak; you will be directed to some consecrated persons you may contact.
  • Include in your worship events prayer for consecrated Life and a Prayer for Vocations; such prayers are available on the website
  • In the different Faith Formation Groups, invite speakers to speak about Consecrated Life
  • Support the Archdiocesan events planned for the Year of Consecrated Life
  • The last Vision Magazine included a poster with the history of Consecrated Life and a Vocation poster. The office of the Delegate for Religious has been given 120 magazines and will send one to your parish on request if you post the two posters inserted in the magazine.
  • The office of the Delegate for Religious has also been sent 1000 vocation prayer cards from the same organization and still has the prayer cards that our Archdiocesan Vocation Office made. Upon demand some of these can also be sent to your parishes.
  • Organize a prayer-partner event between the children in religious education programs or in your school and the Religious of a Congregation that you know.
  • Have each family of the parish commit to one week of prayer for the Consecrated persons in our Archdiocese from the beginning to the end of the Year of Consecrated Life.
  • Dedicate one homily per month to the Year of Consecrated Life.
  • Have the Youth Group of your Parish do some volunteer work with the ministries of religious in the area.
